Donald Trump’s travel ban on 6 Muslim majority countries has already negatively affected tourism to America, with estimates as high as -6.8% just in the last month. Flight booking searches for the US fell -17% between Jan. 26 and Feb. 1. Due to the lack of travel and interest in America, hotel room rates are also suffering with the Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, and Wyndham all taking major hits in bookings, with a resultant drop in room rates. Travel search engine Kayak found that hotel prices in Las Vegas are down by 39% and New York City by 32%. However, the tourism industry is confident that with the travel ban in effect, the number of travellers from Asia (especially Japan) will increase.
