With the advent of technology alongside rapid globalisation, travel has changed tremendously over the years. It has become increasingly important to identify how the travelling culture influences the economy. This is where education comes in ‒ where there is a need for the population to further study how different cultures, history and geography of destination and tour operation and management come together as a whole.
Vishwakarma University in Pune, India, offers a programme for students to learn about tours and travel at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level.
The Bachelor of Arts in Travel and Tourism is a three-year full-time degree programme for Standard XII students from any stream. The Master’s Degree would be a full-time postgraduate degree programme open to graduate students from any stream. To qualify for the Doctorate in professional studies, travel and tourism postgraduates would have to meet the criteria of 55% marks before they are deemed eligible.
Students would be exposed to both the technical and functional sides of a travel and tourism organisation while learning about the operational process as well as the approach to managing a travel and tourism business through both classroom and practical training.
Upon graduation, aspirants can look forward to working in the tourism industry as tour managers, heritage tour guides or adventure tour guides, just to name a few.
