Did you know that you can now pick up groceries on the water? A brand new floating supermarket is now opened in Dubai, and you’ll be able to grocery shop while you’re exploring the waters.
This new aqua-pod, Carrefour Bites and More by the Shore, is owned by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) outpost of supermarket chain Carrefour. Ranked as one of the world’s biggest retailers, Carrefour is living up to Dubai’s reputation for being a shopping metropolis and is at the same time advancing it to a higher level. Small boats and jet-skis are able to place their orders with the aqua-pod via a drive-thru style window. Passengers travelling on larger boats and yachts on the other hand would be able to place orders via phone and can be prepared to have their groceries delivered to their floating location within 45 minutes.
You will find the aqua-pod floating on the Gulf six out of seven days in a week, making journeys between Al Sufouh Beach (next to Burj Al Arab), Jumeirah Public Beach as well as Kite Beach. Carrefour has plans to expand further across Dubai’s coastlines if the current launch is well-received.
The aqua-pod is stocked with more than 300 items at the moment, inclusive of hot and cold food products, soft drinks, ice cream, sunscreen and beauty items. Carrefour is now the first retailer to expand Dubai’s shopping services from land on to water.
Environmental activists should also be glad to know that purchases are fulfilled with biodegradable paper straws and bags as part of recycling and conservation efforts to not contribute to the world’s ocean plastic crisis.
Swimmers however are unable to place their orders with the floating grocery joint as there is no swim-through service available. However, interested beachgoers are able to place an order via telephone and have snacks and drinks delivered to them on the shoreline.
